Providence Laboratory Point of Care Testing Coordinator in Milwaukie, Oregon
Providence is calling a Laboratory Point of Care Testing Coordinator (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Milwaukie Hospital in Milwaukie , OR
We are seeking a Laboratory Point of Care Testing Coordinator that will be responsible for ensuring Point of Care testing activities are performed in a standardized, effective manner while maintaining appropriate licensures and conditions as required by CLIA, OSHA, TJC, and the regional laboratory quality and compliance plans as directed by the Regional POCT Manager. The incumbent may be assigned to oversee hospital, acute care testing or may be assigned to oversee point of care testing within physician office groups or clinic environments. The incumbent must be able to perform a broad range of Medical Technologist duties with expanded responsibilities in technical development and interaction with many healthcare professionals outside the laboratory. The incumbent may be assigned to research and evaluate testing methods, review procedures, and develop and establish training and competency programs for testing personnel.
The incumbent must continuously strive to improve processes and perform audits to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Perform a broad range of Medical Technologist functions:
Under the direction of the POCT Manager and Director, reviews and evaluates new tests and POCT devices for precision, accuracy and cost efficiency
Perform validation and implementation across the services area
Advise and assists POCT contact persons with test method selection, procedure changes, and training appropriate personnel
Develop procedures for newly implemented methods in cooperation with the manager as well as other departments throughout the service area
Develop orientation, training and competency assessment programs for personnel who perform POCT within the service area
Provide training materials and conducts training and competency assessments utilizing a "train the trainer" model
Revise procedures as needed, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and ease of use for personnel who perform POCT within the service area
Implement and monitors quality assurance and quality control practices for POCT, taking corrective action where appropriate
Prepare quality control reports monthly
Perform routine audits to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance by testing personnel
Coordinate proficiency testing programs and review results with the appropriate medical director and managers
Be actively participate in guiding resolution of problems/issues as indicated, documenting action taken and maintaining appropriate records.
Coordinate inspection processes by regulatory agencies as directed by the manager, maintaining a highly professional and collaborative relationship
Recognize and resolve more complex technical problems and ensures appropriate remedial actions are taken for POCT instrumentation and processes
Assist POCT personnel with resolution of instrument errors, compliance issues, and process improvement as needed
Recognize and resolve data management issues and errors, documenting corrective action taken
Maintain appropriate levels of supplies, where needed
Prepare monthly reports for determined metrics, monitor trends, audits, etc., report findings to manager
Share information with testing personnel management
Efficiently multi-tasks with a low error rate

Maintain a highly professional and collaborative relationship with regulatory inspection personnel, assisting with the inspection process as directed by the manager
Developing and maintaining excellent relationships between coworkers, clinicians, nursing personnel and others we serve
Provide leadership and guidance in working with others to identify, analyze and resolve technical and procedural problems
Provide leadership and guidance in working with others to promote a culture of excellence
Coach/develop other staff
Ensure that all POCT sites are in compliance with current regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, TJC, etc.)
Support and contributes to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities
Assist in establishing and monitoring departmental goals for Quality Assurance
Demonstrate working knowledge of POCT Middleware solutions and desktop software applications including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, -OR- related field
MT (ASCP) -OR- equivalent certification
Six (6) years of progressive health care experience
Familiarity with CLIA regulations
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Supervisory laboratory experience
