Providence Health & Services Transportation Supervisor in Milwaukie, Oregon


Providence is calling a Transportation Supervisor (1.0 FTE, Days) to Milwaukie Healing Place in Milwaukie, OR.

We are seeking a Transportation Supervisor who will be direct supervisor for assigned drivers. Responsible for daily operations of transportation at assigned center or assigned transportation area. Coaches, counsels, mentors staff and develops/presents 6 month and annual performance appraisals to direct reports. Takes lead on hiring and terminations with assist from supervisor/manager/HR/EP leadership as necessary. Is responsible for smooth transportation operations at assigned center or for group of assigned drivers/staff.


  • Completing a large volume of transportation requests from a variety of disciplines within their required time frame.

  • Developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with the diverse driver staff of his/her center and the on-call drivers who rotate through each center.

Patient Population Served: Adult, Geriatric

Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional/psychosocial and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Direct supervisor for assigned drivers or staff.

  • Develop and present 6 month and annual driver/staff appraisals.

  • Hire, coach, counsel, mentor staff and termination of assigned drivers.

  • Oversee daily transportation operations at assigned center or for assigned group of drivers/staff.

  • Develop and maintain a high functioning team of drivers/staff.

  • Accomplish all transports at assigned center or for area of responsibility.

  • Initial data entry and maintenance of participant's demographic and trip data in assigned applications.

  • Monitor driver's adherence to transportation policies, procedures safety initiatives and standards of behavior.

  • Conduct daily observations of drivers including but not limited to; loading and unloading passengers, driving observations, attachment of securement and restraint devices and adherence to department or program policies and procedures.

  • Schedule trips for internal clinics.

  • Ongoing assessment of driver training needs.

  • IDT representative for transportation at assigned site.

  • Routinely review routes for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • In cooperation with Dispatcher, works to schedule urgent and emergent transport requests.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • Valid driver's license required

  • No more than 1 moving violation or 1 chargeable accident within the last 3 years required

  • 5 years driving experience

  • 2 years experience in transporting people with special needs

  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills

  • Microsoft Office software knowledge

  • Personal vehicle

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • College studies

  • 1 year transportation scheduling experience

  • 2 years experience coordinating a work group

  • Knowledge and use of transportation scheduling and routing software
